Three children die from child abuse and neglect each day in the United States.

In 2007...The Arkansas Department of Human Services

• investigated 26,817 reports of child abuse and neglect in Arkansas.
• 66% of the substantiated cases were neglect
• 23% of the substantiated cases were physical abuse
• 28% of the substantiated cases were sexual abuse
• There were 7,194 children in foster care as a result of these reports.

In 2007...Arkansas CASA Programs

• served 3,024 children in foster care with 863 volunteers
• 84% of all children served by CASA programs were in out of home care
• 16% of all children served by CASA programs had court involvement, but were living at home
• A total of 273 new volunteers were trained in 2007
• New CASA programs in Arkansas and Crittenden Counties  started in 2007

• Quick Facts About Arkansas CASA

As a member of the National CASA Association, the Arkansas CASA Association promotes and supports local CASA programs across the state. These programs provide qualified volunteer advocates to help abused and neglected children in juvenile dependency-neglect proceedings reach safe, permanent homes. 

Established in 1996, Arkansas CASA provides training, funding, and technical assistance to existing CASA programs. We also assist in the start-up of new CASA programs. 

Along with supporting local CASA programs, Arkansas CASA works to increase community awareness of child abuse and neglect. We also aim to raise awareness of the need for volunteer advocacy. Within Arkansas, our goal is to provide an advocate for every abused and neglected child who needs one.
